How to help your children when moving to a new home

Share the the news with your family as soon as you decide to move.

.Encourage their participation in the decision. Take them with you when looking for a a new home. Ask them their opinion of the new home. Show them their new room.

.Move at the right time of year i.e at the end of a school year.

.Allow plenty of time for your children to say good bye to their friends.

.Help them to make new friends by inviting suitable friends into your new home.

.Share your child's concerns and feelings, discuss these at the meal table.   Listen!

.Encourage your child to take part in after school activities at their new school.

.Allow visits or calls to their old friends. Maybe a sleep-over would help.

.Monitor their progress at school. Un-happiness soon shows up in their school work.

Never scold or chastise for different behaviour. Try to understand their feelings.

Moving home is a big thing in a child's life, especiaaly if they have never know   another home.
